Should You Hop on a Housing Trend? Exploring Natural Element Homes

Natural Element homes are exactly what the name implies:  they are made with natural, renewable materials and make use of historical woods and elements that may have previously been used in other building projects.  Natural element homes also tend to fit into natural environments, often with the intent not to unnecessarily destroy any element of nature, such as vegetation or tree growth.

With the recent trend toward green living and green building, luxury log home builders are seeing an influx in requests from homeowners for natural elements homes.  One of the key benefits for owners is that they can have a luxury natural elements home that has been gentle on the environment, but that also boasts all the modern conveniences.  Energy-efficient appliances, lighting and HVAC systems can help a natural elements home run at its maximum efficiency.

With that said, is this a trend you should hop on?

It’s up to you.  If you love the look of natural elements, raw beauty, then yes.  If you’re simply thinking of a natural elements home for the environmental benefits, then you’re overlooking many other green building options that traditional home builders offer.

Ignore the popular talk and ask yourself, “Do I love this home?” before you look into building one.  That’s really the question at the heart of it.   Natural element homes are gorgeous, and we think natural element homeowners undoubtedly gets years of enjoyment out of them.  But the materials can be a little pricier (as with anything “green”), so choosing this type of home shouldn’t be a lightly made decision.  And it certainly shouldn’t be made on the basis of it being the “in” thing.
